Verified limitation
Canva’s website preview does not provide separate mobile controls for Group, Lock, or element order. The tested editor provided Desktop, Mobile, and a single Resize on mobile checkbox. Use preview to evaluate the responsive result; do not assume locking elements freezes their desktop coordinates on mobile.
Test setup
We created a private blank Canva website on a Free account. The site was never published. The test inspected only the reversible preview controls.
Tested steps
- Create a blank website design.
- Open Preview without publishing.
- Switch from Desktop to Mobile.
- Confirm Resize on mobile is enabled.
- Turn it off, verify the unchecked state, then turn it back on.
- Repeat the off/on control check while Mobile remains selected.
Both checks exposed the same page-level switch. No group, lock, or layer-order option appeared in the preview dialog.
What Group, Lock, and order still do
- Group keeps selected elements together for editing.
- Lock prevents accidental editing in the source design.
- Element order controls which objects sit in front of others.
Those source-design behaviors can influence what the responsive renderer receives, but they are not substitutes for a mobile breakpoint or a separate mobile layout.
Practical workflow
Finish the desktop composition, open Mobile preview, compare with Resize on mobile enabled, and correct the source design when content overlaps or becomes unreadable. Repeat after changing groups, locks, or stacking order. This article does not claim one grouping pattern works for every website.
